Professor Atkatz received his Ph.D. from The Institute for Theoretical Physics, State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1979. He subsequently held post doctoral appointments at Queen Mary College, University of London, and The Rockefeller University, where he performed research in quantum field theory, quantum gravity, and cosmology. While at Rockefeller, he collaborated with the late Heinz Pagels in formulating the first non-singular model for the quantum origin of the universe. He joined the Skidmore faculty in 1989 having previously taught at the University of California at Santa Barbara and the University of Minnesota.
