Lawrence P. Brehm
Visiting Associate Professor
Office: Dana Science Center 230
Professor Brehm is visiting Skidmore for the 2011-2012 academic year. He is an Associate Professor of Physics at the SUNY College at Potsdam where he has chaired the department and led the activities of an NSF-funded grant designed to foster students in STEM majors. He has taught physics, mathematics and biology on the secondary and early college levels, including at the Barlow School and at Simon’s Rock (of Bard College). Before Potsdam, at IBM, he applied holography and other techniques of optical metrology to the characterization, analysis and reliability of electronics components and worked on the development of fiber optic data communication systems. He is thus happy to leave the exotica of string theory and astrophysics to others and concern himself with things like optics, acoustics, and the application of physical methods to biological problems.
