|Portfolio: Winter Climbs
Every day, the signs of spring are increasingly apparent in Saratoga Springs, but to the north and northeast the snows of winter are still piled high in the Adirondacks and White Mountains, where just about every weekend members of the Skidmore Outing Club (SOC) head for alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice climbing.
Started in 1929, the SOC is one of Skidmore's oldest and most active student organizations, carrying out its mission to introduce the Skidmore community to the great outdoors. In addition to coordinating trips for outdoor activities of every sort, the SOC provides students the equipment necessary for mountain expeditions, hosts a weekly "climbing night" at a local gym, and sponsors a mid-week film series. The SOC also hosts the annual Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour.
In this week's Portfolio, we feature photos taken by SOC members Lindsay Bourgoine ’09, Jon Reeves ’12, and Jeff Narva ’08 on expeditions this year and last to the Pitchoff Cliffs in the Adirondacks and Mount Adams and Mount Madison in the White Mountains.
