Saratoga Classic Horse Show
Posted: 06/17/2009The 2009 edition of the Skidmore College Saratoga Classic Horse Show—two weeks of competition in classes and events for riders of all ages—is under way on Union Avenue, across from the Saratoga Race Course. The second and final week is scheduled Wednesday through Sunday, June 17-21.
The show, inaugurated in 1927 and brought back to life in 1998, attracts many of the best horses and riders in the U.S. and Canada, and benefits scholarships to Skidmore students. Organizers hope to raise about $250,000 this year. In the 11 years since the competition was re-invigorated, approximately $2 million has been raised in scholarship funds.
The schedule includes numerous events in hunter, jumper, and equitation classes, for riders ranging from children to adult. Highlights of this week include contests in the Skidmore Alumni Division, with trophies and ribbons to be awarded in equitation flat and equitation fences classes.
