Thirty-four came to the campus for a two-day orientation in late August, then took off for the First-Year Experience in London. The rest for the most part joined pre-orientation programs, heading up to the Adirondacks for whitewater rafting, hiking, and canoeing; going into the Saratoga community to do volunteer projects; travelling to Vermont's Merck Forest Center for an immersion in sustainable living, and staying on campus to explore the Tang Museum and local community through digital technology or work on the semester's first issue of the Skidmore News. But before any of these and other activities began, students met in color-coded T-shirts in South Park and Case Green for icebreaking exercises.
