Fall Sports

Posted: 09/30/2011

Skidmore’s fall athletic season is well under way, with early success for several teams and individual athletes.

Three Thoroughbred teams are nationally ranked, starting with the field hockey team at number three. A 2010 NCAA field hockey semifinalist, the team is off to an 8-1 start. The golf team is ranked 17th after winning the Liberty League championship qualifying tournament. First-year Coach Josh Cupp’s players will host the top four teams in a match-play tournament next spring to decide the league's winner; the tournament victor is an automatic NCAA qualifier. Women's soccer is ranked 24th nationally and fourth in the New York region. Rookie Coach Lacey Largeteau's team is 6-2.

Volleyball is off to a 9-4 start, while the men's soccer team is 3-4. At the end of September the women's tennis doubles team of Nataly Mendoza '13 and Lee Ford '14 won the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Doubles Championship and earned All-American honors. Men's tennis will compete in its USTA/ITA regional later this fall, while the lone fall competition for men's and women's crew is the Head of the Fish on Oct. 29-30.
