How does the Family Right to Privacy Act affect the release of my College records?
Skidmore College must obtain the consent of the student before disclosing personally identifiable information from the educational records. Such consent must include a specification of the records to be disclosed, the purpose or purposes of the disclosure, and the party or class of parties to whom the disclosure may be made. Your completion of the request form constitutes a release.
I attended a long time ago are my records still available?
The Registrar's Office maintains student academic records from 1911 to the present.
What is the difference between an "official transcript" and an "unofficial transcript"?
An "official transcript" bears the signature of the Registrar, a statement indicating the student is in good standing and a transcript key. The "unofficial transcript" contains the same information shown on the grade report and is watermarked with "UNOFFICIAL".
How do I make a request?
Transcript Requests are online forms. Current students and Alumni graduating after 1985 can view and print their own unofficial transcript.
Current student would request official transcripts by linking to the following address: http://cmsauthor.skidmore.edu/registrar/transcripts/trqnscurrent.cfm.
Alumni would request official transcripts by linking to the following address: http://cmsauthor.skidmore.edu/registrar/transcripts/index.cfm, then click 'Alumni Transcript Request Form" link.
Non-Matriculated students or Students who have withdrawn from the College would request official or unofficial transcripts by linking to the following address:
http://cmsauthor.skidmore.edu/registrar/transcripts/index.cfm, then click 'Non mat Transcript Request Form' link.
I don't know where I am applying, why won't you send me a bunch of sealed transcripts?
The Skidmore College transcript is an official document. To protect the validity of the transcript, it is normally mailed directly to a college, university, governmental agency, employer, etc. In the event of a self managed application, official transcripts maybe issued to the student in a signed, sealed envelope. The name of the actual recipient is required to process the request.
How much will my request cost?
As of June 1, 2009, there is no charge for a Skidmore College transcript.
To have your transcript mailed 'ASAP', select "Now" for Send When, and do NOT request
special instructions. 'ASAP' means your transcript(s) will be mailed no later than the end of the next business day. If you type anything in the special instructions box, it could take between 2 to 3 business days to process (that does not include shipping time). During examinations, recording of grades, registration and commencement additional time maybe required.
Can requests and/or transcripts be faxed?
You can fax in your request. Please include the following statement after your signature: "A photocopy of this document shall be considered as valid as the original." Our fax number is (518) 580-5749.
An unofficial transcript may be faxed to the student or designated recipient. Indicate recipient's name, address, phone and fax number in your request. The recipient will be notified that the original official transcript will follow US mail.
Do I need to supply stamped envelopes with my request?
No. If a self-managed application requires the recipient's envelope, include it with your request for processing.
Can you send a copy of my transcript from a former institution or the record of my study abroad courses taken through another school along with my Skidmore transcript when I make a request? What happens if my school is closed?
No. The transcript that Skidmore has was issued from that other institution as an official record of your enrollment and grades earned. Skidmore uses the transcript as evidence of the work you did in order to make admissions and/or transfer credit decisions. However, since we have none of the underlying documentation, Skidmore cannot provide an official copy of another institution's record to a third party. If you need to provide official documents to another school or to an employer, you must request them directly from the institution that sponsored and transcripted the courses originally. This is standard practice across the country.
If you previously attended a school that you think has closed, you may use the search page http://wdcrobcolp01.ed.gov/CFAPPS/FSA/closedschool/searchpage.cfm to verify. You will then need to contact the appropriate Closed School Contact for the state the school was located in and request that a letter be sent to the recipient on your behalf. The contact person can tell you if your records are being held somewhere and how to obtain them. If not, they will need to send a letter to your recipient stating that the school has closed and no records are available for you. They will need to include your name and social security number. The contacts can be found at: http://studentaid.ed.gov/PORTALSWebApp/students/english/closedinfo.jsp?tab=attending

Why won't you release my transcript?
No transcripts will be sent if there is an outstanding financial obligation to the college. A notification will be sent to you indicating the office to contact concerning the hold.
Where do I send a written request?
How do I know that my request was processed?
A receipt, giving date and recipient information, will be sent to the student's email address provided in the transcript request.
My transcript never arrived, what can I do?
Let us know when you made the request, the date mailed indicated on your receipt, and any address corrections. We will mail a duplicate transcript to your recipient with the notation, "Duplicate Transcript, Original Mailed -date- ". If the recipient will accept a faxed copy followed by an original document, let us know the contact person and fax number and we will send an unofficial transcript followed by the duplicate official document.
