Creating a Proposal
A student interested in a self-determined major must propose a course of study to the Self-Determined Majors Subcommittee through the chair of the subcommittee.
Students planning a Self-Determined Major should thoroughly discuss their proposal with their faculty advisor(s). The formal proposal must be typed and carefully written, edited, and proofread. The student should submit the completed proposal directly to the Chairperson of the SDMS.
Deadlines
- The proposal should normally be submitted in the spring term of the sophomore year.
- Students who plan to spend their junior year away from Skidmore must submit their proposals by March 15 of the spring term of their sophomore year.
- Late proposals will be considered on a conditional basis.
