Student Achievements

In SO 375 Senior Seminar in Sociology, taken by all sociology majors, students carry out research projects of their own choosing. Many seminar students then present their research at the annual meetings of the Eastern Sociological Society and other professional associations.

Skidmore sociology majors and minors regularly win recognition for their academic achievements. Each year sociology majors are elected to Phi Beta Kappa and to the Periclean Society, Skidmore's scholastic honor society. Sociology majors have received Fulbright Grants, travel awards to attend the World Congress of the International Sociological Association, Skidmore collaborative research grants to work with faculty on research projects, and grants for graduate study at leading American universities. Skidmore's sociology program itself recognizes students' achievement each year by electing students to Alpha Kappa Delta and granting the Nancy Beth Rautenberg '83 Memorial and the Everett V. Stonequist Awards. This year Katie Largo received the Rautenberg Award and Emily Mastellone-Snyder received the Stonequist Award.
