Employment Information for the First Year Student
The Student Employment Program at Skidmore College is designed to offer a variety of work opportunities for our students. Students perform a myriad of duties vital to our success. The work experience is intended to be a learning experience and an opportunity to financially supplement a student’s academic career.
If you have applied for and been offered financial aid, your financial aid award letter may offer you an opportunity to earn money at a work-study job. Students are not required to work if they do not wish to do so. However, the College will not replace the unearned work-study funds with grant aid.
As a freshmen student employee, it is college policy to provide freshmen work assignments within the dining services department.
- Freshmen accepting a full work award (9 hours per week) within dining services who wish to participate in other campus employment related activities or training, may request up to three additional hours per week (or a maximum of 45 total hours per semester) of employment outside of dining services during the spring semester only. However, the primary commitment will be to dining services and those scheduled hours must be maintained.
- Freshmen choosing to work less than the full award in dining services must first increase their hours to a full work award before consideration of additional hours per week will be granted.
- Freshmen not working in dining services may be considered for up to three hours per week (or a maximum of 45 total hours) of employment outside dining services during the spring semester only.
- If you accept an initial work award in dining services and do not fulfill the terms of this employment, you will immediately lose the campus work opportunity for the remainder of the academic year.
