How does it Skidmore Unplugged work?

The competition will start October 24th and will conclude November 14th and will be based on the greatest percent of electricity reduction of each hall.  Basing the competition on percent reduction allows halls of varying size to compete against one another.

Last year, collectively the halls reduced their electricity consumption by about 20%.  The overall goal is for all of the halls to reduce their electricity consumption and increase the overall percent reduction.

Last fall, Facilities Services put individual electricity meters on each residence hall.  The current Skidmore Unplugged electricity dashboard allows students to view how much electricity their hall has consumed so far in the current day in real time as well as how much electricity their hall consumed the day before.  The Skidmore Unplugged electricity dashboard is updated every 15 minutes.  The website also allows people to change metrics so they can view the consumption in kilowatt hours or lbs of CO2 per hall, per person in the hall or per square foot of the hall.

Each day this website will be updated to reflect the daily standings of each hall in the competition.  Please scroll down for competition standings starting on October 25th (one day into the competition).

What are the prizes?

Chipotle has offered a generous donation of FREE BURRITOS for the winning hall!

The winning hall will earn the Skidmore Unplugged trophy, which was created by John Galt’s advanced sculpture class, with primary work being done by Dave Rollins and Charlie Engelman.

Skidmore Unplugged Trophy

The trophy will have the winning hall engraved on the trophy and will be displayed in Case Center.

Also each student will be entered into a raffle for various gift certificates to downtown restaurants.  There are 25 gift certificates up for grabs from: Old Bryan Inn, Circus Cafe, Virgils, Saratoga Coffee Traders and Putnam Market.  Thank you to the Interhall Board for their generosity in supporting Skidmore Unplugged and helping to fund some of the prizes.
