Northwoods Village Apartments: Built on a former "brown" site, the Northwoods Village Apartments are another geothermal project on Skidmore's campus. The apartments replaced former off-campus student housing, which reduces campus car use, adding to the energy savings. Skidmore also used sustainably harvested wood for trim and recycled material for the roofs, doors and steel frames. The design also focused on day lighting, and the use of low -emitting materials in paints, carpets and adhesives. All lighting fixtures in the complex use high-efficiency compact fluorescent light bulbs.
