Walk-in and Appointment Policies
- Any student may come in during our scheduled hours, and any student may make an appointment.
- We strongly encourage you to make appointments. Please schedule your appointment online (you can click here): you'll see available appointments and tutors, along with tutors' majors and specializations. You may also call (518) 580-8441 or stop by.
-
We take walk-ins, but appointments take priority over walk-ins.
-
We advise that you make appointments at least a day in advance to ensure that we can fit you in, especially toward the end of the term. When we become very busy, we do keep a waitlist for appointments.
-
If you are 10 minutes late for an appointment, you may forfeit that slot. After 10 minutes, a tutor can take a walk-in or someone on the waitlist.
- Try to avoid scheduling an appointment just before a paper is due. Such tight scheduling does not serve you or your writing and limits our ability to assist you.
- You may bring in any paper up to 5 pages long when you arrive for your appointment--no prior drop-off is necessary.
Guidelines: Paper Lengths
-
For papers 1-5 pages long:
Schedule a single 1-hour appointment
-
For papers 6 to 10 pages long:
Please schedule two 1-hour appointments back-to-back. You should (a) drop off your paper at the Writing Center at the beginning of the first hour, to give your tutor time to read the paper, and (b) meet with your tutor during the second hour. IMPORTANT: Back-to-back appointments MUST begin on even-numbered hours and must be made with the same tutor. (For example, drop off your paper at 2pm and begin your session at 3pm, both with the same tutor.)
-
For papers 11 pages or longer, do not make an appointment; contact the Writing Center first.
Papers 11-20 pages: Please call the Writing Center at least four days before you'd like to meet with a tutor.
Papers 20 pages or longer: Visit us in person
